1st PODER Summer School

"Behavioural and Experimental Economics in Development"

7-10 July 2014, University of Cape Town

Main Speakers
Lori Beaman, Northwestern University and CEPR
Catherine Eckel, Texas A&M University
Rick Wilson, Rice University

The summer school is intended for PhD students, post-docs and junior faculty members. The aim is to provide young researchers with an overview of the application of insights from behavioural and experimental economics to development issues. Participants will also have the opportunity to discuss their own research projects with leading researchers in a relaxed and open atmosphere, and receive advice and feedback.

Structure

The main components will be lectures by leading researchers and participants’ presentations. Lecture topics include the role of experimentation in development; calibrating policy with lab experiments; development through the lens of psychology; trust, social preferences and exchange. Selected projects by participants will be presented and discussed during the day. We encourage all participants to submit either complete papers or detailed proposals that present empirical evidence on a development question.
