Eight CEPR Researcher Fellows have been selected by the European Research Council (ERC) in its second competition for "Advanced Grants", created to fund pioneering frontier research in any field. The grants, for up to five years, are intended to support the very best established research leaders in Europe.
According to ERC President Prof. Fotis Kafatos, "The ERC Scientific Council and I are very pleased with the result, and with the quality of the proposals and of the peer review...The investment and trust in top talent is pivotal for Europe's research base, in time of economic downturn more than ever, as it will have a positive impact on the economy, but also on Europe as a whole".
Of nine successful proposals from economists, grants were awarded to the following CEPR Fellows:
Orazio Attanasio, Professor in the Department of Economics at UCL, Research Fellow at the Institute for Fiscal Studies and Research Fellow in CEPR's Development Economics, International Macroeconomics and Public Policy programmes.
Jacob Goeree, Professor and Chair for Organizational Design at the Institut für Empirische Wirtschaftsforschung, University of Zurich and Research Fellow in CEPR's Industrial Organisation programme.
Benny Moldovanu, Chair of Economic Theory II, University of Bonn and Research Fellow in CEPR's Industrial Organisation programme.
Kevin H. O'Rourke, Professor of Economics at Trinity College Dublin, co-organiser of CEPR's Economic History Initative and Research Fellow in CEPR's International Macroeconomics and International Trade programmes.
Torsten Persson, Torsten and Ragnar Söderberg Chair in Economic Sciences at the Institute for International Economic Studies, Stockholm University and Research Fellow in CEPR's Development Economics, International Macroeconomics and Public Policy programmes.
Jean-Charles Rochet, IDEI Researcher, Member of the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE), Professor of Mathematics and Economics, University Toulouse I and Research Fellow in CEPR's Financial Economics and Industrial Organisation programmes.
Jean Tirole, Scientific Director of IDEI, Member of the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE), Chairman of the Board of Directors, Toulouse School of Economics and Research Fellow in CEPR's Financial Economics, Industrial Organisation and Public Policy programmes.
Jaume Ventura, CREI Senior Researcher, Professor in the Department of Economics at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra and co-Director of CEPR's International Macroeconomics Programme.
