How to reach Madrid city centre
From the airport:
The airport is not far away from the city center, and it has a good metro/train connections. Depending on your final destination, it should take you approx. 20-40 min. Metro and train tickets can be bought at the station.
- Taxi: 30€ fixed fare to Madrid city centre.
- Metro or Train (“Cercanías”):
- If you arrive at terminals 1,2, or 3, take the subway line 8 (the pink one) towards “Nuevos Ministerios”. From there you can take several lines depending on your final destination (see details below).
- If you arrive at terminal 4, take the Cercanías Train towards Nuevos Ministerios, Sol or Atocha. From there you can take several lines depending on your final destination (see details below).

Due to high hotel demand, some hotels are further away from the venue than others and will take more time to walk. There are good and frequent public transportation options to go from the hotels to the venue. Please note that a subway or a bus ticket costs 1.50€. Subway tickets may be purchased at the station (you will have to buy a card, which you can recharge and also use on the bus); bus tickets may be purchased on the bus with cash (or you can also use the subway card). There are also several cab options: standard taxis, Uber and Cabify.

Thursday Night’s Drinks
On Thursday evening (7:30pm to 9pm) we will have drinks at Azotea del Círculo de Bellas Artes (14 minutes walk from the conference venue). The address is Calle del Marqués de Casa Riera, 2 (off calle Alcalá, close to Cibeles Fountain). We offer restaurant suggestions at the end of this file – please note it is advised to book in advance, so once you make your dinner plans on Thursday, do make a quick call to the restaurant to reserve a table. Note that some of the restaurants listed below might have trouble acommodating large groups.
Caixa Forum Museum visit
The museum visit will take place on Friday from 6:30pm to 7:30pm (i.e from just after the last Friday talk until an hour before the conference dinner described next). We will be divided in groups. It will consist of a 15-20 min guided tour by one of the museum guides plus some free time if you want to take a quicker look at the exhibits.
Friday Night’s Dinner
The Conference dinner will take place at Ana la Santa Restaurant (10 minutes walk from the conference venue). We will meet there at 8:30pm. The address is Plaza de Santa Ana 14.
Saturday’s lunch
We will be having a light lunch on Saturday around the corner from the venue: Impact Hub Alameda (Calle Alameda 22), room PATIO #000.

There are plenty of restaurants and bars within the area. Some of our favourites are listed below. Some of them are walking distance (5min-20min) from Círculo de Bellas Artes. The ones at the bottom of the list are further away. We recommend booking in advance.
Vinoteca Moratin – Calle de Moratín 36. Small and cozy restaurant serving local food and fresh produce. € - €€
Celso y Manolo – Calle Libertad 1. Small Taverna serving delicious tapas– Well known for its tomato salads and rice with chorizo. €-€€
Charrua – Calle Conde de Xiquena 4. Meat from many places, but the best one they have is Galician €€€
La Buena Vida - Calle Conde de Xiquena 4. Small restaurant. Classical cuisine, meat, fish, rice, excellent wine cellar €€€
Señor Martín - Calle General Castaños 13. Grilled fish and seafood, but grilled fish is especially recommended €€€
Le Petit - Calle Argensola 24. Despite the name, traditional Spanish food €€
Cuatrodeocho - Calle San Mateo 21. Both standing tapas and regular dining €€
La Cocina de San Antón (roof top) – Calle Augusto Figueroa 24B. If you fancy having dinner outside on a terrace., although food is not exceptional €€
La Ancha – Calle Zorrilla 7. Traditional Spanish restaurant on the back of the parliament. Good quality guaranteed. €€€
Fismuler - Calle Sagasta 29. Traditional cuisine updated, nice ambience €€€
La Manduca de Azagra – Calle Sagasta 14. From the Navarra region. Unbeatable raw material: fish, meat and vegetables. €€€
Arzábal – Menéndez Pelayo 13 or Museo Reina Sofía. Good for fish. In this area you can find several lively (and typically packed) places for tapas €€ (in Calle Doctor Castelo, La Montería or La Castela, or La Tenista, among others). €€
La Platea –Calle de Goya 5-7. An old movie theater converted into a group of tapas places. €
Pimiento Verde – Calle del Conde de Miranda, 4. Restaurant serving local food, famous for its artichokes. Nearby Mercado de San Miguel – an old market that has been refurbished to house several tapa places €€
Florida Retiro – Plaza de la Independencia 7. Inside the Retiro Park. You can choose to have a drink, tapas, or a fine dinner. There is also an outside terrace. €€-€€€
Casa de Méjico-Puntarena – Calle de Alberto Aguilera 20. Stylish Mexican restaurant with delicious food. It has a pleasant terrace. €€
