For participants whose accommodation costs are covered by the organisers, please be reminded that incidental expenses such as the mini-bar, laundry, telephone, Internet or any other service offered by the hotel are not covered and should be settled with the hotel directly.
The nearest underground stations to LSE are Holborn (Central and Piccadilly line) and Temple (Circle and District line). For the Club Quarters’ Hotel, the nearest stations are Charing Cross (Bakerloo and Northern Line), Leicester Square (Picadilly and Northern Line) and Embankment (Circle and District Line). Please see the enclosed map for walking directions from any of these stations.
The fastest and cheapest option is to take the Picadilly line straight from Heathrow to Leicester Square (hotel) or Holborn (LSE). A single ticket in cash (to zone 1) costs £5.70 (£3 off peak/£4.70 peak single on an oyster card). Buy the ticket from the machines to avoid the queues at the counter. Travel time is 55 minutes.
Alternatively, Heathrow Express trains depart from Heathrow Airport every 15 minutes and the journey time to Paddington station is 15 minutes. A standard return ticket will cost £34.00 if purchased from the ticket office before boarding.
At Paddington, buy a Zone 1 single ticket in cash (£4.70), or use an Oyster card (£2.20) for underground travel. Take the Bakerloo line to Charing Cross (7 stops) for the hotel, or Oxford Circus (five stops) and change to the Central line to Holborn (two stops) for LSE.
The Gatwick Express train offers high-speed travel between Gatwick Airport and London Victoria station, with a journey time of just 30 minutes. A standard single fare is £17.70 and a standard return is £31.05 (online booking rates).
At Victoria station, buy a Zone 1 single ticket in cash (£4.70) or use an Oyster card (£2.20) for underground travel. Take the Circle or District line 3 stops to Embankment for the Hotel, 4 stops to Temple for LSE.
Luton Airport is served by a high frequency shuttle bus service connecting the airport with Luton Airport Parkway rail station in just 8 minutes. Passengers arriving at the airport or at the station without purchasing a rail ticket will pay a bus fare of £1.50 single, £2.50 Standard Open Return.
At Luton Airport Parkway station, take the East Midlands train or the First Capital Connect train to St Pancras International Station (journey time approximately 40 minutes; a standard open return costs £24). From St. Pancras International it is a short walk (follow the signs) to King’s Cross and St. Pancras underground station, where you will need to buy a Zone 1 single ticket in cash (£4.70) or use an Oyster card (£2.20) for underground travel. Take the Picadilly line 2 stops to Holborn for LSE or 3 stops to Leicester Square for the Hotel.
The Stansted Express departs every 15 minutes during peak hours, seven days a week. The journey time is 40 minutes and a return ticket will cost £33.20. The station is located within the terminal and the line goes to Liverpool Street station in London.
At Liverpool Street Station, buy a Zone 1 single ticket in cash (£4.70) or use an Oyster card (£2.20) for underground travel. Take the Central Line four stops to Holborn. Change at Holborn for 1 stop to Leicester Square on the Picadilly line to get to the Hotel.
London City Airport is on the DLR line with a 22-minute journey time to Bank station. The DLR is integrated with the underground system. Either an oyster card (fare £2.70/£3.20) or single ticket for Zones 1-3 (£4.70) will be valid. The DLR station is situated 50 yards from the Airport terminal. From Bank, take the Central Line three stops to Holborn. Change at Holborn for 1 stop to Leicester Square on the Picadilly line to get to the Hotel.
King’s Cross – St. Pancras International
If you are travelling by Eurostar, you will arrive at St. Pancras International station. From St. Pancras International it is a short walk (follow the signs) to King’s Cross and St. Pancras underground station, where you will need to buy a Zone 1 single ticket in cash (£4.70) or use an Oyster card (£2.20) for underground travel. Take the Picadilly line 2 stops to Holborn for LSE or 3 stops to Leicester Square for the Hotel.
Taking a taxi from any London airport (and in particular Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted or Luton) to LSE will take longer than taking a train and will cost a small fortune. A taxi ride from Paddington Station to LSE takes between 20 and 50 minutes depending on traffic. A taxi ride from King’s Cross and St. Pancras to LSE takes about 10 to 15 minutes. A taxi from Victoria Station to LSE takes between 15 and 20 minutes. A taxi ride from Liverpool Street Station to LSE takes between 20 and 30 minutes.
Breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be provided at the conference venue throughout the days of the conference.
