It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Denis Gromb, Professor of Finance at HEC Paris.

Denis was appointed a CEPR Research Affiliate in September 1995, only one year after the award of his PhD from École Polytechnique. Originally appointed to the Financial Economics and Industrial Organization programmes, in 2004 he was promoted to be a Research Fellow in the FE programme, a field in which he made influential contributions.  He was the author of multiple CEPR Discussion Papers and organised many CEPR workshops and conferences. In addition, in 1998 he was elected as the representative of Research Affiliates on CEPR’s Executive Committee, a position in which he served until 2001. This election is an indicator of his popularity within the profession, even at a very young age.
