Adrian Alter is a senior economist in the IMF’s African Department. During his decade-long career at the Fund, he has applied a broad spectrum of policies and procedures to a wide range of countries and had extensive engagements with country authorities. Adrian has participated in various country assignments including program reviews (Serbia), Financial Sector Assessment Programs (Canada, Russia), and Article IV missions (Congo, CEMAC, Lesotho, Singapore). Most recently, he was part of the negotiation team for Tunisia's EFF program request (2021-23). On the policy side, Adrian led analytical work for several flagship publications such as the Global Financial Stability Report and Regional Economic Outlooks, supervised small teams and provided guidance to research assistants and junior economists. Prior to joining the IMF, he held research fellowship and internship positions at the European Central Bank, Deutsche Bundesbank, and UBS Investment Bank. Adrian holds a PhD in economics from the University of Konstanz (Germany), a master's degree in finance from HEC Lausanne (Switzerland), and attended the 2016 Program on Financial Stability at the Yale School of Management (SOM). His research agenda includes macro-financial topics such as monetary and macroprudential policies, corporate finance, real estate markets, and the bank-sovereign nexus.
