Aitor Erce is a researcher and policy advisor on fiscal and debt policy issues with over 15 years of experience. His academic research has been published in top journals including The Review of Economic Studies or The Journal of Monetary Economics. On the policy front, most recently, Aitor has advised the African Development Bank and the Independent Evaluation Office of the International Monetary Fund on issues related to sovereign debt sustainability, sovereign debt restructuring and the provision of official lending. Through his various roles, including as a Principal Economist at the European Stability Mechanism, Aitor has been involved in the evaluation and design of official loans to crisis countries, and has contributed to the development of tools for carrying out debt sustainability analyses and for detecting risks to market access. Aitor holds an MSc in Finance from CEMFI and a PhD in Economics from the European University Institute.
