Andreas Peichl is Director of the ifo Center for Macroeconomics and Surveys and Professor of Economics, esp. Macroeconomics and Public Finance at the University of Munich. He holds a diploma in economics from the University of Cologne after studying at the Universities of Marburg, Cologne and Essex. He received his Ph. D. ("Dr. rer. pol.") from the University of Cologne in 2008. From 2008 to 2013, he was Senior Research Associate and from 2009 on Deputy Program Director for the research area "Future of Labor" at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) in Bonn, Germany, where he now is a Research Fellow. From 2013 to 2017, he was head of ZEW's Research Group "International Distribution and Redistribution" and Professor of Quantitative Public Economics at the University of Mannheim. He is also Research Associate at ZEW Mannheim, at the Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER), University of Essex, UK, and Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Studies (CESifo) of the University of Munich, Germany.
Andreas Peichl has been involved in various research projects conducted on behalf of national ministries, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Central Bank, and the OECD. His current research interests include (empirical) public economics, labor economics, and welfare economics with particular reference to optimal taxation, tax reforms and their empirical evaluation, tax benefit microsimulation, and the analysis of income distributions. Peichl has published extensively in international academic journals (such as the American Economic Review, the Review of Economic Studies, Nature, the European Economic Review, the Economic Journal, the Journal of Public Economics and the Journal of Human Resources, among others).
