Senior Researcher at the Development Policy Research Unit (DPRU) at University Of Cape Town

Ben Stanwix is a Senior Researcher at the Development Policy Research Unit (DPRU) at the University of Cape Town. He is also a Tutor in Economic History. Ben joined the DPRU in October 2012. Prior to that he spent time working in India with the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA). Ben obtained a Masters degree in Applied Economics from the University of Cape Town in 2011. He also holds a Masters degree in Economic and Social History from the University of Oxford. His research interests include: labour economics, economic & social history. He has co-authored a number of journal articles and working papers on minimum wages, covering topics from compliance, to estimating their impact on employment, wages and non-wage benefits. He’s also published papers on pro-poor growth and social protection, as well as non-income welfare and inclusive growth in South Africa.
