Bert Ingelaere is assistant professor at the Institute of Development Policy (IOB), University of Antwerp (UA), Belgium. ​His research focuses on the legacy of mass violence and (forced) migration. He has undertaken over 40 months of fieldwork in Africa's Great Lakes region. His work was awarded the United States African Studies Association Graduate Student Paper Prize and the Auschwitz Foundation Prize. His book Inside Rwanda's Gacaca Courts won the 2017 Bethwell A. Ogot Book Prize. He has published numerous reports and articles for such publications as World Development, Journal of Peace Research, Development & Change, Journal of Refugee Studies, Journal of East African Studies, African Affairs, Journal of Modern African Studies, Critique of Anthropology or The International Journal of Transitional Justice and is the co-editor of Genocide, Risk and Resilience.
