Charles Abuka

Director, Financial Stability at Bank of Uganda

Charles Augustine Abuka is the Director Financial Stability at the Bank of Uganda. He has been involved in the implementation of Uganda’s macroeconomic policies since 1998. His published work has concentrated in the areas of macroeconomic policy, finance, trade, growth and poverty dynamics. He has also lectured to Graduate students of Makerere University in Public Sector Economics. In more recent times, he has participated in training officials of central banks of the East African Community (EAC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern African (COMESA) countries in the areas of macroprudential policy and financial stability analysis. He has led a number of missions in the region to assist countries to establish Financial Stability Units and strengthen the oversight of their National Payments Systems. Prior to joining the Financial Stability Department, Charles worked as a Deputy Director in the Economic Research Department in charge of Policy Analysis and Development. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Pretoria and a B.A. from Makerere University.
