Courtney C. Coile is an Associate Professor of Economics at Wellesley College and a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). She earned her Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her A.B. in Economics from Harvard University. Coile has served as a Consultant to the National Institute on Aging and the Social Security Administration, is the Editor of the NBER’s Bulletin on Aging and Health, and joins the Board of Editors of the Journal of Pension Economics and Finance in 2010.
Her research centers on issues in the economics of aging, particularly the economic determinants of retirement decisions. Some of her past projects have explored how financial incentives from Social Security and private pensions affect retirement, how couples make retirement decisions, and whether the stock market boom and bust of the last decade affected the labour supply of older workers. Her current research explores the effect of labour market conditions on retirement and the well-being of older workers.
