Elena Flores

Director, International Economic and Financial Relations, Global Governance, DG ECFIN at European Commission

Elena Flores was appointed Director for International economic and financial relations, global governance in DG ECFIN in 2015. Previously, she was Director, Policy Strategy and Coordination (from 2011), Economies of Member States II (from 2007) and head of the units “Public finance in the euro area and the EU” (from 2002) and “Monetary union: technical and financial market questions” (from 1997). From 1999-2002, Ms. Flores served as Advisor in Commissioner Solbes’ office, responsible for economic policies, employment, taxation and financial issues. Before joining DG ECFIN, Elena Flores worked in the Directorate General for Budget, in particular undertaking the financial reform of the European Community (1987-1990). Ms. Flores was an assistant professor at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) in the field of international economics. She has a Master’s degree from the UAB and a Master in European Economy from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.
