Francesco Mazzaferro

Francesco Mazzaferro has been the Head of the European Systemic Risk Board since January 2011. Francesco’s career began in financial research, working in the Research Department at the Istituto Bancario San Paolo di Torino, in Frankfurt am Main and Turin. Following on from this he joined the European Commission, focussing on preparations for the introduction of the single currency. Francesco joined the ECB in 1995 (previously the European Monetary Institute) in the Policy Planning division, working at the euro introduction in 1999, and then moved to the European Relations Division. Following on from this he worked in the international department, becoming the Head of the EU Countries Neighbouring Regions Division. Francesco studied law at the University of Bologna.
