Frances Perkins Professor of Economics at Cornell University

Francine D. Blau is the Frances Perkins Professor of Industrial and Labor Relations and Professor of Economics at Cornell University. She is also a Research Associate of the NBER; and a Research Fellow of IZA, CESIfo, and DIW. She has served as Vice President of the American Economic Association; President of the Society of Labor Economists, the Labor and Employment Relations Association, and the Midwest Economics Association; and Chair of the AEA Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession (CSWEP). She is a recipient of the IZA Prize for outstanding achievement in labor economics; the Jacob Mincer Award from the Society of Labor Economists in recognition of a lifetime of contributions to labor economics; and the Carolyn Shaw Bell Award from CSWEP for furthering the status of women in the economics profession. She has been elected a Distinguished Fellow of the American Economic Association; and is an elected fellow of the Society of Labor Economists, the American Academy of Political and Social Science, and the Labor and Employment Relations Association. She has written extensively on gender issues and inequality. Her textbook with Anne Winkler (and formerly the late Marianne Ferber) on The Economics of Women, Men, and Work is currently in its 8th edition. Professor Blau received her Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University and her BS from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University.
