Francisco Buera is Senior Economist and Research Advisor in the macroeconomics section of the economic research department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Buera's research examines the macroeconomic aspects of economic development, including studies on the role of financial markets, the forces driving the changes in the structure of production over time, the diffusion of technologies, economic policies and institutions across countries. Prior to joining the Chicago Fed, Buera was an Associate Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, an Assistant Professor at Northwestern University, and a Senior Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. Buera is an Associate Editor of the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics and a Foreign Associate Editor at the Review of Economic Studies. Buera received a bachelor of economics degree from the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, Argentina, and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago.
