Gavin Wright

William Robertson Coe Professor of American Economic History Emeritus at Stanford University

Gavin Wright is the William Robertson Coe Professor of American Economic History Emeritus at Stanford University, a chair formerly held by Moses Abramovitz and by Paul David. Wright specializes in the history of the US economy, with a special interest in the American South. His most recent publications are “Slavery and Anglo-American Capitalism Reconsidered,” Economic History Review (2020); and “Slavery and the Rise of the Nineteenth-Century American Economy,” Journal of Economic Perspectives (2022).
