Gonzalo Varela

Economist in the International Trade Department at The World Bank

Gonzalo Varela is with the International Trade Department of the World Bank. He obtained a DPhil in Economics from the University of Sussex. He has taught International and Development Economics at University of Pisa, Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and the University of Sussex. Prior to joining the International Trade Department at the World Bank, he served as an Economic Analyst for the Ministry of Industry in Uruguay, for the Uruguayan Chamber of Industries, and as a Consultant for international organisations (the World Bank Country offices, DfID, European Commission, ECLAC). His research focuses on firm reactions to international integration, exchange rate uncertainty and output decisions, and commodity price transmission.
