Since 2008 Harry Garretsen is professor of international economics and business at the Faculty of Economics and Business at University of Groningen. From 2011-2016 he acted as faculty dean, and he was previously a professor of economics at Utrecht University and Radboud University Nijmegen. His main research areas are international economics and geography, the economics of leadership. and macro-economics. He served as a member of the Social Economic Council of the Netherlands, is now a member of the Banking Council of the Dutch central bank, affiliated with the University of Cambridge and also a research fellow with the CESifo institute in Munich.
