Ilan Goldfajn

Ilan Goldfajn is the Chairman of the Board, Credit Suisse Brazil and Founding Partner and Director of CDPP (a Brazilian public policy think tank). He was appointed Director Western Hemisphere Department at the IMF starting January 2022. He was Governor of the Central Bank of Brazil from 2016 until March 2019, and Deputy Governor from 2000-2003. In 2018 he was elected “Central Banker of the Year” by The Banker magazine. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Previously, he was partner, chief economist and advisor to the board of Itaú Unibanco. Also, he was founding partner at Ciano Investimentos and partner at Gávea Investimentos. Earlier, he worked at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, DC. Throughout his career he has held academic positions, including professor at Pontifical Catholic University (PUC) in Brazil and at Brandeis University in the US, and has published several papers, books and articles.
