John Graham

Dr. John R. Graham is D. Richard Mead Professor of Finance at the Fuqua School of Business and Co-director of the Center for Finance Excellence at Duke University. He is a recipient of the Best Teacher and Outstanding Faculty awards at Fuqua. Graham is past or current Director of the American Finance Association, Western Finance Association, and Financial Management Association, and he is President of the Western Finance Association. He is past Co-editor of The Journal of Finance and his work experience includes working as a Senior Economist at Virginia Power. Graham’s research focuses on taxes, cost of capital, capital structure, financial reporting, and payout policy. Morningstar uses corporate tax rates that he calculates in their widely-known cost of capital estimates. Since 1997 Graham has directed the Global Business Outlook (www.cfosurvey.org), a global CFO survey that assesses the business climate and economic issues each quarter. He is lead author on the textbook Corporate Finance: Linking Theory to What Firms Do.
