John McLaren is Professor of Economics at the University of Virginia and Research Associate at the NBER. His research has ranged across the fields of international trade, development, industrial organization, and political economy. In recent years his largest focus has been on the effects of trade liberalization, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), on US workers; the effects of immigration on local labor markets; and on the effects of political pressures on trade policy. His undergraduate textbook was published in 2012 by Wiley and Sons.
