John Micklewright is Professor of Social Statistics and Policy Analysis at the University of Southampton. His previous appointments include a spell in the UN as Head of Research at the UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre (1996-2002), and posts as Professor of Economics at the European University Institute (1989-1996) and at Queen Mary, University of London. He was Prize Research Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford, following award of his PhD from the LSE in 1984. His publications include papers in the Journal of Economic Literature, Economic Journal, European Economic Review, and Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, a chapter in the Handbook of Income Distribution (North-Holland) and books with Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, and Macmillan. His research interests cover the measurement of living standards and the analysis of labour market behaviour, education, and charitable giving.
