Jonathan Eaton

Professor of Economics at New York University

Jonathan Eaton is Professor of Economics at New York University. He currently works on the interaction of trade and technology, examining in particular the role of individual producers. Previous work focused on strategic trade policy, international sanctions, and developing countries’ participation in international capital markets. He has been on the faculty at Princeton, Yale, the University of Virginia, and Boston University. Eaton graduated from Harvard in 1972, and did graduate work in economics at Yale, receiving an MA in 1973 and PhD in 1976. He has held visiting positions at the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva, the Australian National University, the University of Indonesia, the University of Osaka, the University of Aix-Marseille II, the University of Munich, Tel Aviv University, the University of Minnesota, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. He served as Vice President of the American Economic Association. He currently edits the Journal of International Economics. In 2004 the Econometric Society awarded his paper Technology, Geography, and Trade, co-authored with Samuel Kortum, the Frisch Medal.
