Karin S. Thorburn is Associate Professor of Finance and Associate Director of the Center for Corporate Governance at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics (1987) and a PhD in financial economics (1998) from the Stockholm School of Economics. She is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Corporate Finance and the International Journal of Corporate Governance, a member of the Turnaround Management Association’s Academic Advisory Council, a Research Affiliate of the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London, and a Research Associate of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI). Professor Thorburn's research focuses on bankruptcy, takeovers, corporate restructuring, corporate governance, and environmental economics. Her work has been published in the top academic finance journals, including Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Corporate Finance, and Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. Her publications deal with the efficiency of mandatory bankruptcy auctions and estimation of gains to bidder firms in merger and acquisitions. Prior to her academic career, Professor Thorburn held various positions within the ABB Financial Services Group.
