Kate Orkin is an associate professor at the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford. Her work is in behavioural, labour and development economics. Some of her current research is on information frictions and credit market imperfections in rural and urban labour markets. Other research is in the psychology of poverty, particularly on how depression and low aspirations affect future-oriented investment. Kate completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Cape Town, and studied for her MPhil and DPhil at the University of Oxford, as a Rhodes Scholar.
