Kyoji Fukao is Professor at the Institute of Economic Research, Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo, Japan, and Research Director of the Center for Economic Institutions at the Institute. He is the leader of a Global Center of Excellence (COE) program, “the Research Unit for Statistical and Empirical Analysis in Social Sciences (G-COE Hi-Stat)” funded by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. He is also the leader of a project, “Productivity of Companies and Industries, and Japan's Economic Growth” at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry in Japan. The project compiles Japan’s Industrial Productivity (JIP) Database, a well known database for industry level productivity analysis. He coauthored Foreign Direct Investment in Japan with Ralph Paprzycki (Cambridge University Press, 2008). He has published articles in several journals, including the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Political Economy, Review of Income and Wealth, The Journal of the Japanese and International Economies.
