Louis Preonas

Louis Preonas is an Assistant Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of Maryland. He is an energy and environmental economist, and much of his research focuses on interacting market distortions in energy markets. In recent work, he has examined pass-through of markups and taxes in U.S. coal transportation, the economic impacts of rural electrification in India, Indian electricity market design and its relationship to blackouts, agricultural groundwater use and farmers’ crop choices in California, and the design of randomized experiments using panel data. Louis completed his PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics at UC Berkeley in 2018. Prior to arriving at the University of Maryland, he was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Chicago in the Department of Economics and Energy Policy Institute.
