Luigi Spaventa

Luigi Spaventa is Professor of Economics at the University of Rome, having previously been a Visiting Fellow at All Soul's College, Oxford, a Visiting Scholar at the International Monetary Fund and the Luigi Einaudi Professor at Cornell University. He has had held many high public offices in the area of macroeconomics and finance. He is a former Minister of Treasury (1988-89), former Minister of the Budget (1993-94), former Chairman of the Italian public authority responsible for regulating the Italian securities market, CONSOB (1999-2003), and former Chairman of the bank Monte dei Paschi di Siena (1997-98). He was a Member of Italian Parliament from 1976 to 83. He is a member of the Euro 50 Group and has been a Research Fellow at the CEPR since its inception.
