Marco Espinosa is a member of the IMF’s Monetary and Capital Markets Department. Prior to joining the IMF, Dr. Espinosa worked for more than a decade at the U.S. Federal Reserve System where he was responsible for: briefing the President of the Atlanta Fed in preparation for his participation in Federal Open Market Committee meetings and other policy discussions; tracking national and international economic developments; participating in monetary policy discussions; addressing a wide variety of domestic audiences on topical economic issues; conducting basic research; and speaking at international fora. Mr. Espinosa has been interviewed by CNN on several occasions and his commentaries have also been quoted in several news services, including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Bloomberg FN. Dr. Espinosa has taught at several universities including Dartmouth College and Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.
His research spans financial intermediation, securitisation, optimality of foreign reserves, capital controls, international policy coordination and monetary policy, and has published in professional journals such as the Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Intermediation, the International Economic Review, Economic Theory, and the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking. He has also published in specialised periodicals such as the Atlanta Fed’s Economic Review and several IMF publications. Mr. Espinosa holds a Masters in Economics with a minor in Statistics and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Minnesota.
