Marcus Kappler

Marcus Kappler is Deputy Head of the research group “Business Cycles and Growth” and Senior Researcher at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW) in Mannheim, Germany. He studied economics at the Universities of Tübingen, and Maryland, USA, and obtained a diploma from the Free University in Berlin in 2002. In 2007, Marcus Kappler completed his doctoral studies at the University of Frankfurt. He is employed at the ZEW since 2002 and has been working there in several research departments. Besides the application and development of cross sectional time series methods, his research interests are in empirical and theoretical concepts to separate business cycles from long-run trends. He was project manager of several studies commissioned by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, the German Federal Ministry of Finance, and the European Commission. These studies involved analysis of international business cycle linkages with a special focus on the EU and the New Member States and assessments of methods to estimate potential output, output gaps and structural unemployment.
