Martine Visser

Martine Visser is a Professor in the School of Economics, University of Cape Town and SARChI Chair in Economics and Governance of Ecological Infrastructure. She is also Director of the Environmental Policy Research Unit (EPRU). Visser specialises in behavioural economic applications to climate change, water, natural resource use and poverty alleviation. She is interested in how social norms and preferences such as trust, cooperation and risk aversion impact decision making the implications for policy. Visser mainly uses experimental methods (in the lab and in the field) combined with survey analysis and randomised control trials to test behavioural interventions. She is currently associate editor of Journal of Behavioural and Experimental Economics.
