Mathias Czaika

Associate Professor in Migration and Development at the International Migration Institute (IMI) at University Of Oxford

Mathias Czaika was a Senior Research Officer at the International Migration Institute (IMI), University of Oxford, before taking up the role of Associate Professor in Migration and Development in September 2015. Mathias is currently leading an interdisciplinary research group on “High-Skilled Migration", focussing on the drivers and dynamics of international migration processes of skilled and highly skilled workers. His wider research interest is to understand international migration processes, and in particular, the role and relative importance of migration policy in shaping patterns of international migration. Prior to joining the International Migration Institute (IMI) in 2010, Mathias finished a PhD in Political Economy at the University of Freiburg, Germany, where he graduated in December 2008 with a dissertation on The Political Economy of Refugee Migration and Foreign Aid, published by Palgrave Macmillan (UK) in 2009.
