Michael Reich is Professor of Economics at the University of California at Berkeley, Director of the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment at UC Berkeley and co-Director of the Miguel Contreras Labor Program at the University of California. Reich has a B.A. in Mathematics from Swarthmore College and a Ph. D. in Economics from Harvard University.Professor Reich s research publications cover numerous areas of labor economics, including the economics of racial inequality, the analysis of labor market segmentation, historical stages in U.S. labor markets and social structures of accumulation, high performance workplaces, union-management cooperation and Japanese labor-management systems. His current research focuses on dynamic models of low-wage labor markets and on the economics of living wages and minimum wages.
