Miguel Portela has a PhD in Economics from the Tinbergen Institute, University of Amsterdam. He has been working on the topic "Education, growth and labour economics". Previously, he obtained a Master in economics with the thesis "Worker skills, employer recruitment policies and wage inequality in Portugal". He is currently employed at Universidade do Minho, Portugal, where he works as an Assistant Professor, being affiliated with NIPE - Universidade do Minho. He joined IZA as a Research Affiliate in 2004. His research interests lie in the areas of labour economics, economics of education, applied microeconometrics and economic growth.
