Mika Widgrén (1965-2009) was Professor of Economics at the Turku School of Economics, Finland. He was also associated with the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy (ETLA), where he was Research Director for 7 years. He was Vice-President of the Finnish Economic Association (2006-2007) and Managing Editor of the Finnish Economic Journal for 1998-2002. He consulted for the Finnish and Swedish governments, the European Commission and the Finnish Prime Minister’s Office in 2006 and published widely in the areas of public choice, voting theory, and trade. He did his PhD at the University of Helsinki and was a CEPR Research Fellow from 1994-2009.
