Nancy E. Reichman is Professor of Pediatrics at Rutgers University’s Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, Visiting Professor of Economics at Princeton University, and Visiting Research Collaborator at the Center for Research on Child Wellbeing at Princeton University.
She received a Ph.D. from the City University of New York Graduate Center in 1993. One of her long standing research areas is maternal and child health, with published studies on parental age and birth outcomes, effects of public policies on birth outcomes, racial and ethnic disparities in birth outcomes and child health, neighborhood characteristics and birth outcomes, effects of prenatal care on pediatric health care and child health, and birth outcomes and children’s developmental trajectories. Another major focus of her published research involves effects of health shocks on family resources and outcomes, including marital status and household composition, labor supply, welfare receipt, health insurance status, residential instability, food insecurity, social interactions, and criminal behavior. Reichman has also published studies focusing on health across the lifespan in an international comparative context, health across generations, adverse childhood experiences and child development, and effects of the Great Recession on risky health behaviors.
In two current research projects, she is investigating effects of welfare reform in the U.S. on social behaviors and effects of elective deliveries on child development. Reichman served as Deputy Editor of Demography from 2013–2016.
