Nathan Porter

Desk Economist at International Monetary Fund

Nathan Porter is the Desk Economist covering China at the International Monetary Fund. He has analysed many aspects of China's economy, including its macroeconomic and financial conditions, as well as its monetary and fiscal policies. His recent research has sought to understand the main drivers of China's interbank market, and the likely impact of further financial liberalisation on China's financial system. He has also recently been working on the interaction between corporate and household savings both within China and the region.Previously Dr. Porter was the Fund s Main Economist analysing Hong Kong SAR s economy, and he has also worked on several other emerging- and low-income economies. Prior to joining the IMF, Dr. Porter was a Senior Economist at the Australian Treasury, and he holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania, an M.Ec. from the Australian National University, and a B.Ec. (Hons) from the University of Adelaide.
