Naureen Karachiwalla

Naureen Karachiwalla is a Research Fellow in the Poverty, Health, and Nutrition Division (PHND) and is a non-resident Fellow at the Consortium for Development Policy Research (CDPR). She obtained her PhD in Economics from the University of Oxford and was an AMID Fellow at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.She uses experimental and quasi-experimental methods to examine how policy design can improve public service delivery and reduce poverty. She studies the role of incentives in improving the quality of public services provided by bureaucrats through both meritocratic bonus payments and promotions, the design and implementation of social protection programs in reducing poverty, and the role of public and private investments in human capital, both in education and nutrition. Other work also studies technology adoption constraints due to poor quality inputs.
