Parthasarathi Shome

Director and Chief Executive at Indian Council For Research On International Economic Relations

Dr. Parthasarathi Shome is currently the Director and Chief Executive of ICRIER, New Delhi. Previously, he was the Chief Economist, Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC), United Kingdom, and Adviser to Union Finance Minister, India. He also held various positions at the IMF including Director, IMF Singapore Training Institute and Chief, Tax Policy Division. Prior to his tenure at the IMF, he was a Professor at American University, Washington DC. Dr. Shome has authored, edited and co-edited a number of books including Tax Policy and Administration in South and South East Asia, Routledge, 2006, India’s Fiscal Matters, Oxford University Press, 2002, Tax Policy Handbook, IMF, 1995, and other books; and published over 50 refereed articles in journals including Journal of Economic Theory, Oxford Economic Papers, IMF Staff Papers, Journal of Public Economics, National Tax Journal, Public Finance, Journal of Developing Economies, Labor and Society, International Social Security Review and others. Dr. Shome was awarded “Commander of the Order of the Southern Cross”, the highest civilian honor of the Brazilian Government for a non-Brazilian, for his contributions to tax reform in Brazil in 2000.
