Patrick Nolen

Patrick Nolen is a tenured Lecturer at the University of Essex specialising in experimental, labour, and development economics. His labour research focuses on the role environmental factors play in observed gender differences in such areas as risk, competition, and test scores. His work in development economics focuses on South Africa and China. He has recently begun work on a bi-annual survey in rural China to examine the effects of off-farm work on various aspects of rural development. Before receiving his PhD from Cornell University, he worked on an independent research project “Aging: Personal Values and Governmental Policy” in South Africa, Ireland, and France as a Thomas J. Watson Travelling Fellow. His graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, CT with honours in Mathematics and Economics and was the President’s Fellow in Mathematics at the college.
