Paul Wachtel

Professor of Economics at Stern School of Business, New York University (NYU)

Paul Wachtel is a professor of economics at New York University Stern School of Business. He has been with Stern for over 45 years and has served as department chair, Vice Dean, University Faculty Council chairperson and the Academic Director for the BS in Business and Political Economy.   He is the chair of the Academic Board of the International School of Economics in Tbilisi and serves on the program committee of the Dubrovnik Economic Conferences. He received his PhD in Economics from the University of Rochester in 1971. His primary research interests are the relationship of financial sector development to economic growth,  central bank independence and the role of central banks in the post-crisis world, and financial sector reform in transition economies.
