Rafael Romeu

Senior Economist at International Monetary Fund

Rafael Romeu is a Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund, where he has worked since 2001. Since 2010, he has been the Fiscal Economist on Spain and has also reviewed various countries in Europe and Asia for the Fiscal Affairs Department. Prior to this, he worked on programs and surveillance for Latin American and advanced economies at the Western Hemisphere, International Capital Markets, and Research Departments. Before joining the IMF, he held short-term positions at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and the Central Bank of Venezuela and he was on leave to the Department of Economics at Yale University for an adjunct teaching position in 2007. He holds a PhD from the University of Maryland College Park.
