Ravi Balakrishnan

Mission Chief for the Euro Area at International Monetary Fund

Ravi Balakrishnan is currently the IMF mission chief for the euro area. He has been at the IMF for over 20 years, during which time he has led teams on and worked on countries across the development spectrum (Bolivia, Canada, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Malaysia, Peru, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the United States); and managed projects across a variety of macroeconomic themes (for example inequality, labor markets, and fiscal rules). He was also part of the World Economic Outlook team and the IMF’s representative in Singapore conducting surveillance of ASEAN countries. He started his career at the Bank of England and Bank of Spain, following a Ph.D. in economics at the London School of Economics. He has published academic papers, blogs, and media articles on a wide range of macroeconomic and financial topics.
