Renos Vakis

Renos Vakis is a Lead Economist in the Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Unit of the Latin America and the Caribbean Region at the World Bank. His research focuses on poverty reduction, inequality and gender issues in Latin America and the Caribbean. He also supports the design, targeting and impact evaluation of poverty-targeted interventions. He has written extensively on issues related to poverty dynamics, risk management, market failures and rural development, especially in Latin America and South Asia. Prior to joining this unit, he worked in the Human Development Network of the World Bank on the linkages between risk, poverty and social protection systems. He has also taught Economics at Johns Hopkins University (SAIS). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
