Robert Koopman

Chief Economist and Director of the USITC Office of Economics at U.S. International Trade Commission

Robert B. Koopman is currently the Chief Economist and Director of the USITC Office of Economics, which provides analysis and support for the Commission’s role as Adviser to Congress and the President on international trade matters. He has held this position since 1999. In addition he teaches graduate classes in Advanced International Trade at Georgetown University and Trade and Economic Development at the George Washington University. Prior to joining the USITC Dr. Koopman spent 15 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) where he served in various leadership and research positions including as a Deputy Administrator for Economic and Community Systems in USDA’s research administration arm and as a Deputy Director in the Economic Research Service (ERS). He is a recipient of the Secretary’s Honor Award and numerous other awards for his analysis of the impacts on world trade of the Uruguay Round, CAP Reform, and the effects of transition in the former centrally planned economies.
