Sarah Stewart-Brown

Professor of Public Health at Warwick Medical School at University Of Warwick

Sarah Stewart-Brown is Professor of Public Health at Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick, one of the United Kingdom’s leading academic institutions. Sarah joined the University in 2003 from the University of Oxford where she had been directing the Health Services Research Unit. Her research interests focus on two new areas of public health practice: child public health and public mental health. Her research was influential in the rationalisation of child health surveillance programmes in the UK and the development of a new child health promotion service. Her publications relating to parenting have played a key role in the development of policy relating to parenting support in the UK and she continues to research parenting interventions. As parenting is such a key determinant of future mental health, these publications are now contributing to the new public mental health and wellbeing agenda. Her most recent contributions lie in the development and validation of measures of mental wellbeing for public health use. She is currently developing a research agenda relating to the contribution of complementary and alternative health care approaches to mental health and wellbeing. Prior to starting her academic career Sarah worked in the UK NHS both in paediatrics and in public health so she brings a wealth of practical experience as well as a lot of experience in research and teaching. Sarah has published extensively including a book on Child Public Health (OUP 2010). She holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree from Bristol University and is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and the Faculty of Public Health. She also holds a Certificate in Zero Balancing.
