Serguey Braguinsky

Serguey Braguinsky is an Associate Professor of Economics at Carnegie Mellon University. He holds a joint appointment in the Department of Social and Decision Sciences and in the Heinz College, School of Public Policy and Management. Prior to coming to Carnegie Mellon, Braguinsky also taught at the State University of New York in Buffalo and at Yokohama City University in Japan. He has also been an Olin Fellow in Law and Economics and a Visiting Associate Professor at the George Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State at the University of Chicago. He has served as a Consultant to Japan’s Economic Planning Agency and the Export-Import Bank of Japan as well as Salomon Brothers Japan and in 2000 he became the first national of post-communist Russia to be elected member of the Mont Pelerin Society. In recent years, Braguinsky has been a Visiting Researcher in the Institute of Innovation Research at Hitotsubashi University. His B.A. degree in Japanese Studies and International Economics is from Moscow State University in Russia, and he earned his Ph.D. in economics at Keio University in Japan in 1997.
