Chief Economist at Bank Of England

Spencer Dale is the Chief Economist at the Bank of England, a member of the UK’s Monetary Policy Committee and the Executive Director for the Bank’s Monetary Analysis and Statistics areas. He has held these positions since July 2008. Prior to that, Spencer was visiting Senior Adviser in the Division of Monetary Affairs at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. He has previously headed up Bank of England divisions responsible for the analysis of monetary policy and policy strategy and for producing macroeconomic projections for the UK, as well as serving as Private Secretary to Mervyn King. He has published numerous research papers in academic journals and central bank publications on issues relating to monetary policy strategy, central bank communications, and financial markets.
