Professor of Finance and Management Science at the University of Cyprus, a member of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts., and Non-resident Fellow at Bruegel. in Brussels. He published more than 150 articles in journals such as Management Science, J. of Banking and Finance, Quantitative Finance, J. of Economic Dynamics and Control, Operations Research, SIAM Journal on Optimization, Insurance: Mathematics and Economics, ACM Transactions on Mathematical Software. His book Parallel Optimization. Theory, algorithms and applications (with Y. Censor, Oxford University Press) received the INFORMS ICS Prize, and Practical Financial Optimization. Decision making for financial engineers was published by Blackwell-Wiley Finance. He edited the Handbook of Asset and Liability Management for Elsevier. His book with Patrick Harker Performance of Financial Institutions (Cambridge University press) was translated in Chinese. He received the EURO Excellence in Practice Award jointly with Andrea Consiglio and Flavio Cocco. An updated list of publications is posted on ResearchGate. Before joining University of Cyprus he was a tenured Professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and held visiting appointments at MIT, University of Haifa and Universities in Athens, Italy and Argentina. He worked as a Consultant for the World Bank and several financial institutions in the USA, Switzerland, Italy and Cyprus. He served two terms as Rector of the University of Cyprus and as President of UNICA (Universities of the European Capitals), and on the Board of Central Bank of Cyprus.
